Nawlins I Love You!

There really is something pretty cool and amazing about New Orleans but I haven’t yet figured out what it is…. is it the food?  We walked 4 miles to the District this morning because I really wanted to try their food.Nawlins Day two0020

You can find them at 2209 Magazine Street and I have to admit that I didn’t see much on the way there…. I was in a hurry… I didn’t want to spoil my appetite because this is what we were greeted with!

Nawlins Day two0026

Seriously people…. how in the world does it get any better than this?  Well actually it does because though dessert greets you at the door… we hadn’t eaten yet and really needed to get some food BEFORE the dessert.

Meet the Monte Cristo… Monte Cristo meet ME!  There. Are. No. Words.

Nawlins Day two0059Course if you don’t want ham with jam and all the fixings you can have a tame version of a donut with turkey and cheese…. yes…. go back up and have another look at the Monte Cristo…. it was that good… how does it get better than this…. well… dessert after breakfast makes the whole day seem worth living doesn’t it?  I have to promise myself that I’ll only have dessert after breakfast here… in Nawlins…. and really how can we NOT.

7 Layer for me…. chocolate for P… and two black cherry sodas…..

Nawlins Day two0069

Does this not just make you go weak in the knees?   7 Layers… caramel, pecans, toasted coconut, graham wafers, chocolate…. and I’m missing something….

Nawlins Day two0074

YUP… two donuts… in one meal…. and breakfast no less!  And now we have 4 miles to walk back to the hotel…. thank Christ because otherwise what we just indulged in would be utterly shameful!

The beads….the trees…. and the fun signs… does it not feel like you’re right here?  I know it actually doesn’t because if you were here…. you’d be so full…. that all you could do now is walk…. and hope that you could somehow step away from the guilt… 😉  And I do that by showing you all some other wonderful things.

Then a little shopping…. 😉  and don’t you know we got caught in a NOLA shower?

Nawlins Day two0131

Nawlins Day two0139

It came down so hard for a couple of hours we got lost walking back to our hotel….. a couple got married in the middle of Bourbon Street…. sorry… I lost my place in the crowd but this will give you some idea of the insanity….

Nawlins Day two0162Yup… everyone’s a photographer.

Nawlins Day two0185

Then off to Coop’s for dinner…..

Nawlins Day two0176

And there’s Coop!  LOL…. can’t show you the food here… just too dark in the place for the camera to focus…. now off to walk some more…….

Nawlins Day two0218

Cause there’s just one more donut we have to try…. here

Nawlins Day two0210

Beignets……  now most people would each have their own orders.  After all, three small beignets…. who would even think to share?

Nawlins Day two0215

We would of course…. because it’s not like we haven’t had enough donuts today!

When you’ve walked more than 10 miles… I think starting and finishing your day off with donuts is warranted don’t you?  Nawlins….. I love you!

I enjoyed reading about your trip to New Orleans. The culture and food are wonderful. I also went to Coops and had the fried chicken, a few years ago. It was excellent. What an unassuming little place Cafe DuMonde, the best coffee and beignets! I want to go back after reading this. I enjoy your blog. .. I just came back from a river cruise in Europe and loved the Czech food. I googled and found your blog when I got back Have gotten some good recipe ideas already reading your site. Thank you. Hi Valerie,

I’m so glad you found me! I miss NOLA all the time… what an amazing place, it was one that’s been on my bucket list for years. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get back there since there are SO many places on my bucket list but I’m so glad we went there. We still think of Cafe DuMonde frequently and though I miss it it’s probably a good thing that we can’t have beignets and frozen coffee every night like we did when we were there. Even at 10 – 15 miles a day of walking we our eating still outnumbered the calories we burned! LOL We’re hoping to do a trip to the Czech Republic in the next couple of years as well. So many places and so much food!! 🙂
